SAAB 340
The Saab 340A is a pressurized 35 passenger, standup cabin, twin engine turbo prop. The 340 is fully air conditioned and was built as an airliner and therefore has airliner quality amenities such as a fully enclosed toilet facility and galleys. It is currently in the R&D Experimental Category, therefore many experiments can be flown without involving a significant amount of time and paperwork. It already has many systems installed to facilitate experiments such as numerous power outlets, intercom system throughout the cabin, etc. Various pods and antennas are already installed. Numerous GPS antennas are incorporated on various exterior locations to provide extreme precision of flights. This aircraft has been utilized for numerous missions for the Naval Research Labs. Full support is provided by the 340’s Pilots, Engineering, and Operations & Maintenance Staff for all experiments. Many of the same experiments that can be flown on larger and smaller aircraft can be flown economically and with more comfort due to the many features of the Saab. The aircraft, due to its size is a very stable platform.
