Piper Aztec F (PA-23-250)

The University Research Foundation operates a twin-engine Piper Aztec, PA-23-250 aircraft for low altitude atmospheric sampling, LIDAR imaging, and radar evaluation. Atmospheric sampling equipment collects subnanometer particles, gases (O3, CO, SO2), and atmospheric properties (temp, humidy, light absorption/scatter). LIDAR equipment is install in the via a 14-inch square by 2-inch deep cut-out in the aircraft belly to allow variable scanning angles. Phased array radar attenna and equipment have been installed longitudinally beneath the aircraft belly. This aircraft has also been used for missle seeking profile flight evaluaitons. The nose cargo area is equipped with a window of foward looking camera/sensor, and has space for additional sensor platforms. This aircraft has extended wing-tip fuel tanks for long duration flights.
